New bloggers first post

Art

In art we have learnt the artistic style called Surrealism. Using this we had a few bumps along the way but we survived, yay! In our art lesson we made collages using magazines and materials we brought in from home. Here are Callum and Luke’s!

Mandarin

This term we have been especially lucky to have a special teacher, a mandarin teacher, called Mrs Wang. We have been learning how Mandarin lessons go and how to say thank you and hello and a lot of other words.  Here are some words we have learnt:  ting = listen, ni hao = hello, xie xie = thank you.

Children in Need

On Friday 15th November we had a onesie day to raise money for the charity Children in Need. Lots of children came in wearing a onesie and pyjamas, even with mad hair, never mind how silly they looked!

Hello we are the brand new bloggers. If you are asking, the old ones are definitely not in a skip! Out with the old and in the with the new. So hello again and our names are Josh, Callum and Luke.

English

In English we have been reading a story called the Giant’s Necklace. It’s about a girl called Cherry who goes on holiday with her family and starts to make a giant necklace. So far we have read up to part 2 and now we have to write our own part 3! We look forward to you reading them later on.

Science

During our science lessons we have been learning about lilies and how they open.

So we carried out some tests and changed one independent variable (which means something that changes). For example some groups have changed the liquid, others have changed the temperature and even adding more weight, changing shape and size. Most groups gave a fair test by using three lilies however some groups only used two. One amazing fact is that water and fairy washing up liquid only takes 39 seconds to spread out.

OUR NEW TOPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This week we will be finding out what the ins and outs will be of our new topic called NOW YOU SEE IT NOW YOU DON’T which is all about MYSTERY and we’re all excited about it.

Busy week

YEAR 6 ART SCAN IN!

In our previous art lessons we have been working on a square piece of card using string and match sticks (sounds interesting ) to make an epic pattern by painting the key features and then printing them onto a A4 sheet of paper. So far our patterns have been amazing and we hope our parents think so too when we show them all the work we’ve been doing over the last half term.

COLIN MANSON VISIT

One of our school governors visited us to speak about global warming, not enough electricity, water, food, and the population increasing. Colin Manson told us about more cars wasting electricity when they are not being used and also mentioned the solutions for all of these increasing problems.

 SCIENCE

For the last couple of weeks in science we have been learning about vertebrates, invertebrates and how animals adapt to their habitats. Also we have been learning about 5 different animal groups:

·        REPTILES

·        FISH

·        BIRDS

·        MAMMALS

·        AMPHIBIANS

Finally, just to let you know there is more information on StudyWiz about the Civic Award,

Marwell Photo Competition

Last week we visited Marwell  Zoo  in order to get some ideas on what animal we would choose to adopt with our parents kind donations.

We Had A LOT of pictures from our 8 cameras. There were some amazing ones and we’ve picked the best 3.

NUMBER.3

Ah a rhinos butt very um… interesting! We definitely didn’t choose it just because it was funny or anything, yeah Evan! By looking at it, you need to understand the artistic ability (one day we maybe professionals)!

NUMBER.2

Awwww so cute! A fluffy Amur leopard taken from the rainforest to be protected from poachers. His bones used for medicine and his  fur used for coats. Why would people do this to him?

NUMBER.1

Ah the meerkats! No way to describe them accept… awesome.

Welcome to the year 6 blog! We’re going to tell you all about everything that goes on in year 6 (actually no, what the teachers let us write). We’ve had a great first couple of weeks (so far). We are looking forward to the rest of the year and we're going to keep in touch with all of you! Every Monday we’ll tell you what’s going on.

What have we done so far?

Maths

In maths we have been doing addition and subtraction. However, we had to use an efficient method; an example is a compact method or column method. We could, however use an expanded version.

Here’s an example of column:
